The Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA) proudly supports medical students, residents, fellows, and early career physicians through dedicated scholarship funding. This year, ten scholarships will provide recipients the opportunity to attend national or state anesthesiology conferences.

New ASA Annual Meeting Scholarships – Supporting Future Leaders in AnesthesiologyThe Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA) is proud to expand its commitment to early-career anesthesiologists through new scholarship opportunities that support attendance at the ASA Annual Meeting, taking place October 10–14, 2025, in San Antonio, TX. These scholarships are designed to empower the next generation of leaders in anesthesiology—medical students, residents, fellows, and early-career physicians—by providing access to one of the most influential national gatherings in the field. |

The ASA Advance business meeting gives you the opportunity to enjoy specialized sessions geared towards residents/fellows on leadership, business relationships, governance, and more.
This scholarship is awarded every year to a resident or fellow member who has demonstrated a passion for leadership and governance and has an active interest in learning more about it through attending the meeting.
Scholarship InformationAny member currently enrolled in a Massachusetts Residency or fellowship program may apply for a scholarship when applications are open. There is no limit on the number of times a resident may apply for funding. The $1,500 scholarship is intended to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses (travel, lodging, meals) to attend the ASA Advance Business Conference in January. The scholarship check is awarded concluding the Conference. Residents and fellows who wish to apply for this scholarship must complete the online application.
The required documentation must be submitted to the MSA by the December deadline. The winner will be notified by January.
The MSA is proud to be honoring Dr. Alexander Hannenberg, a former Chair of the MSA, a former President of the ASA, and the 2015 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award, in such a way and have his name used for this award.
Each year, the Alexander Hannenberg Scholarship is awarded to a resident or fellow member who is actively engaged and passionate regarding advocacy issues and who wishes to attend the annual Legislative Conference of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
